Saturday Snapshot - Quilting

This past week, our weather has been as grey and rainy as it gets. I don't mind, though, because our lawns and gardens are as green as they can be and I have had a small sewing project going in the house. I recently joined a quilter's guild and the monthly block project is my way of getting my hands working on something that I can share with the members the next time we meet.

This month's block-of-the-month project involves a light and a dark batik fabric - your choice of colors and designs. Everyone is to make two 12-inch quilt blocks with a prescribed pattern that is handed out at the meeting. You have all month to get the blocks done. On the evening of the next meeting, one block is put into a basket that is donated to a charity quilt project and the other block (identical) is put into a raffle. Everyone who makes the blocks is eligible to win that evening's block raffle. Cool, huh ?

I'm liking my colors and patterns so much that I'll be making three more of the same blocks and turning them into a table runner.

The directions were pretty clear and before it was lunchtime, I had all the fabric cut for five blocks, marked for stitching, and one block was done ... wahoo!  What a lot of geometry quilting is ... all lines and squares! I'm glad I paid attention in math class!

I wonder what everyone else is posting for their Saturday Snapshots ? Curious, too ? Link up with everyone at Alyce's spot over at at home with books ! Check it out and maybe you'll think of a snapshot of your own to contribute to the share! Maybe parades or hotdogs on the grill of some other fun shot from this weekend! Happy Memorial Day, all you state-side folks!

  5. I admire people that can create such lovely items. I took a quilting class years ago. As a result I learned that quilting is way above my creativity skill level and that I should stay outside in the garden! I did eventually finish one pillow.

  9. You've made a great start! I plan to learn quilting one of these days -- when I've got some room for a work table and a sewing machine.

  13. Lovely colors. I love quilts, and my partner has an aunt who loves to quilt. Me, I have neither the inclination nor the ability, but I'm so happy that others do. Enjoy your quilting.
