" Let there be work, bread, water, and salt for all."
- Nelson Mandela
I made a lovely loaf of bread this week and was caught up in the thought that many in this world and in this country ( the U S of A) would find a loaf such as this a luxury. That seems wrong to me. I guess I'm a bleeding heart liberal or a socialist or a Communist or a Christian or a dissident or a fool or something. I just want us to spread our personal and national wealth around as far at it will go and I wish every citizen of this great country felt the same way.
Just call me a Pollyanna. It's okay. It would be nothing that I haven't heard from my family and friends ...

This is a Saturday Snapshot and is shared on Alyce's blog athomewithbooks ... head on over to check out what others are posting today. Link to the original Saturday Snapshot post for rules on posting your own snapshot ... then, bake a couple loaves of bread and share one ... just a thought!
"Feed the hungry' seems like such a simple precept but we haven't quite managed it. Great quote and the bread looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious! Yes, that quote and your thoughts make perfect sense to me too.
ReplyDeleteI think you are a generous person....and someone who cares about others. Those who label generous people with less than lovely names are just bitter or envious.
ReplyDeleteLove the bread! Gorgeous and tasty looking.
Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
It's wonderful that you thought of all those in need after you'd made a beautiful loaf of bread. Good for you and I'm sure you can find ways to share. That sure looks like a delicious loaf. -- Arti

I hope most of us, no matter what labels we wear, could walk past a hungry child or adult. Your bread looks beautiful. How'd you make the heart?
ReplyDeletePaulita, the hearts were made with brown paper cut-outs that I spritzed with olive oil and laid on the unbaked dough. Then, I sprinkled cornmeal over the loaf and let it sit a minute, then gently lifted the paper stencils off, leaving the design on the loaf ... very easy!
DeleteWonderful baking, wonderful sentiments. Yes sadly it would be a luxury to many. It's nice to realise how lucky we are, and share that luck.
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Susan and lovely loaf of bread! I'm with you all the way!!
ReplyDeleteI love your sentiments and that beautiful loaf of bread!
ReplyDeleteThe bread looks lovely - such a simple idea, and I agree with your thoughts about sharing with others. No Snapshot from me this week, but I'm enjoying looking at everyone else's.
ReplyDeleteWhat a yummy looking treat.
ReplyDeleteYou will have to revive this recipe come February -- and present such a delectable dish to your significant other on Valentine's Day.
Nothing wrong with being generous and kind. That's a fine looking loaf of bread. I never did get the hang of bread making!
